RWTH Aachen University acknowledges the integration of equality and diversity among its stakeholders as crucial parts of an innovative and dynamic university which facilitate excellence in research and teaching.
Gender equality is an important aspect in this process. The promotion of gender equality represents an integral part of the university and has been propagated through the position of the equal opportunities commissary since 1991. The strong legal involvement of the equal opportunities commissary and her participation in important decision-making processes make her a pivotal stakeholder within the "Gender and Diversity Triangle": The Equal Opportunities Office, the Integration Team, and the Chair for Gender Studies.
RWTH Aachen University recognises the significance of gender aspects in research and science. In 2007, a professorship of Sociology with the focus on gender studies was established within the Faculty of Sociology. The incorporation of gender studies as an interdisciplinary field of research will be strengthened through the funds of the Excellence Initiative.
The "Integration Team - Human Resources, Gender and Diversity Management" was founded in the framework of the Excellence Initiative in November 2007 and is directly responsible to the Rectorate. With its scientific background, the Integration Team is the first address for faculties and institutions at the university regarding issues of gender and diversity.
The cooperation between these three areas represents a strong triangle, which will promote equality and diversity within the university. RWTH Aachen University is showing its commitment to an open and respectful culture and is taking a stand for a comprehensive implementation of gender and diversity management at all levels of the university.
