Monday Evening Conversations

Mondays 7.30 pm, Fo 4 Kármán Auditorium, RWTH Aachen University

For over 30 years, the Monday Evening Talks have provided the stage for an exchange on the key trends and positions of contemporary architecture. In each of our lecture cycles, renowned guests discuss provocative, unusual and memorable topics. In the winter term 2008/2009 the topic was „Homo Faber. The production of architecture”, followed by "Grand Tour Revisited. The architectural pilgrimage today." The next series is dedicated to the clichés or commonplaces of contemporary architecture.

How „green“ is „sustainable“? Is „transparent“ a lucent ideal? How „flexible“ can „comfort“ be? And is „less“always „more“? A 6-part lecture series discusses terms of architecture, which have been used so often that they are already used up, mutated into platitudes which still form a basis for contemporary architecture. For this purpose, architects, philosophers and sociologists are invited to defend or break-up, analyse or give a new meaning to the individual clichés. Future and active architects as well as interested visitors are welcome to listen and to take part in the discussions.
