Mentoring Program
What is the mentoring program of the RWTH Aachen University and who does it address?
In the winter semester 2011/2012, a comprehensive Aachen mentoring model for students was introduced as part of the forward-looking "excellent teaching" strategy. This program, which currently has started its pilot phase at all faculties of RWTH Aachen University, is supposed to improve study conditions in the long term by an early information and advice management. The main target groups of the mentoring system are students with delays in their study period due to personal reasons, as well as highly talented students, who wish to inform themselves about additional possibilities for promotion, for example scholarships and seminars.
What is mentoring at the Faculty of Architecture and who is the contact?
The mentoring at the Faculty of Architecture aims to personally advise and support the students throughout their entire course of studies.
The two mentors, Reiff graduates Dipl. -Ing. Christiane Hasskamp and Dipl. -Ing. Eva-Maria Zingel, offer individual conversations in which all questions on study-related topics can be addressed.
How does a mentoring conversation proceed?
During a first meeting, the focus is on the personal situation of the student and her/his questions and challenges with regard to the studies. Accordingly, solutions for the individual future study organization are developed. Additional offers of RWTH Aachen for the promotion of capacities and potentials can also be arranged. If required, subsequent meetings serve to support the student for a longer period.
The meetings with the mentors are confidential and take place in a protected setting.
Which topics can be addressed in the meeting?
The following thematic groups can form focal points:
- Organization of the study
- Demands of the study
- Time and work management
- Work-Life-Balance
- Scholarships, seminars and additional possibilities for promotion
The mentors are also the first point of contact when students have no specific problem or cannot yet name a problem.
The examination board of the faculty remains responsible for legal issues.
