FAQ Internship
At what time of my studies should I do my industrial internship?
The integrated intership is intended to be done in your ninth semester.
How many weeks of internship must be demonstarated?
The duration of the recognised practical activity shall be at least 18 weeks. Hourly or casual activities (parttime activities) are not the same as the purpose of apprenticeship and can therefore not be recognised. Lost working days (vacation, illness, but not public holidays) has to be made up for. If the practical activity is exceptional done in intervals it should be noted that the time of apprenticeship shall be at least 2 coherent weeks.
Can a student temp activity or an apprenticeship be rocognised as a practise activity?
Student temp activities (but no hourly or daily activities), other apprenticeships (e.g. respective apprenticeships with final exams at the chamber of commerce and industry), professional activities aswell as the industrial practice of graduates of Constance Universities of Applied Science can be recognised, when their purpose and type of the practical activity correspond with the actual internship guidelines. In a specific application of recognition of respective apprenticeships with final exams at the chamber of commerce and industry and student temp activites, please contact our Internship Office.
Which enterprises are suitable to serve the internship?
During the practical activity the theoretical knowledge and the experience requirements principally can be acquired in middle and large industrial enterprises or in larger technology enterprises oriented to system development. There should be at least 20 core employes, including at least 5 engineers. In addition enterprises can be considered like power plants, large research establishments, audit office of the Telekom and corresponding communication transmission companies. Small enterprises without developing and system orientation, like craft enterprises or comuter shops are ruled out. Because of the short apprenticeship period not all activities can be recognised in which engineers operates. This approach applies to e.g. small engineering companies and to public service (e.g. university institutes). Furthermore companies/ enterpises from relatives in the first degree (e.g. own or parental company) cease to apply.
Every enterprise which allows an apprenticeship falling within the scope of this directive is qualified for carrying out the industrial practice. The applicant is responsible for meeting these commitments.

Will my internship be recognized, if I have only worked in the field of software development?
Unfortunately, for example administrative activities, domestic installations, the repair of household applicances, radio or television sets are not a part of main engineering workings. In like manner, both working only with software and pure software installation and programming courses will not be recognized.
In what form and which structure the report of the internship has to be?
All reports subserve learning the represantation of technical issues. Thats why the reports have to be self-written. They can contain descriptions about manufacturing processes, facilities, tooling equipment etc. and should contain notes about the experinece of the practiced activities.

I would like to get more information about the seminar which takes place in the practical semester.
The internship semester includes a one-semester seminar event. Every participant must give a talk (report of one's experiences) during the seminar. You should choose the seminar which is organized by the university lecturer who is probably going to take care of your diploma thesis. You will find more information about the seminar in the announcements of the departments. Another possibility would be to contact the department yourself. The department in charge will tell the Examination Office about your participation.
The Internship Office is not responsible for the enrolment and the course. Morover, it is not responsible for announcing the successful participation of the seminar to the Examination Office!
