Each candidate intending to receive a doctor’s degree from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, without complying with the prerequisites according to § 8, subparagraph 1a of the doctorate regulations, must make an application for the examination of admission requirements. This application is not equivalent to the actual application for admission to the doctoral examination according to § 11 of the doctorate regulations.

The application must be addressed to the dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The following documents must be submitted as attachments:

  • the prospective topic of the dissertation thesis,
  • a professor's confirmation of his or her willingness to supervise the dissertation,
  • a complete curriculum vitae with a presentation of the academic career including certificates of completed studies or examinations,
  • a legally attested copy of a matriculation certificate or an equivalent school-leaving certificate,
  • legally attested copies of all university diplomas,
  • legally attested copies of certificates of all awarded degrees up to now,
  • a declaration that these doctorate regulations are acknowledged,
  • a declaration of possibly previous unsuccessful proceedings of a doctorate,

If documents should not be written in German or in English, legally attested copies of translations prepared by a sworn interpreter must be submitted.
Additionally, for verification purposes all documents must be submitted in form of their original versions and their original translations.

Applicants from China are required to submit certificates issued by the Akademische Prüfstelle der Deutschen Botschaft in Peking (APS). Otherwise, legally attested copies of diplomas will not suffice.
