Changes of the Curriculum
A change of curriculum generally serves to replace or complement contents intended by the resp. examination regulation by equivalent or appropriate performances at RWTH Aachen University or at another university.
For submitting an application the resp. form from the download area must be used. The completed form including all necessary signatures must be submitted to the Examination Board of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. You may either submit it by regular mail or in person at the Study Counsel of the Faculty.
The change of curriculum submitted last exclusively holds validity for the accreditation period. Therefore please note that with a possible second change of curriculum all modules, which will not be changed, must be listed again and identified accordingly. Applications submitted earlier for the same period of time lose their validity.
Guidelines (valid for all exam regulations)
Verification of a subject’s equivalency or significance is divided into two parts:
- Formal verification of equivalency
- Verification of equivalency of content / verification of complementation
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering verifies formal equivalency of comparable CP or the temporal extent with foreign universities.
One class hour per week (SWS) in Aachen comprises 630 minutes (14 weeks of classes per semester x 45 minutes per class = 630 minutes per class unit and semester).
Each subject may individually deviate with a maximum of ± 1 class hour per week (SWS). In total the deviation in the resp. area (compulsory, elective, compulsory occupational field, compulsory interdisciplinary area) may account for ± 1 class hour per week (SWS). A higher deviation upward is possible. However, in the accreditation procedure it will be weighted with a maximum of ± 1 class hour per week (SWS).
The verification of equivalency of content resp. the appropriate complementation of content will be performed by the study branch resp. the occupational field advisor.
Exception:
Equivalency of content of the subjects:
- Automatic Control (Diploma) resp. Control (B.Sc.)
- (Technical Fluid Dynamics (Diploma) resp. Fluid Mechanics I and II (B.Sc.)
- Heat and Mass Transfer (Diploma) resp. Heat and Mass Transfer I and II (B.Sc.)
will each be confirmed separately through signature by the teacher concerned on the addition to the change of curriculum.
- Business and Economy modules must be verified in content by Faculty 8.
- Compulsory modules may only be replaced by modules equal in content.
Any desired number of changes of curriculum may be applied for. As soon as a performance, which was altered by a change of curriculum, is completed, it may not be changed any further.
