Free Attempt Regulations, Grade Improvement Attempts, Compulsory Registrations
In convincing cases you may extend exam regulations deadlines for exams (compulsory registrations and if provided in the exam regulation also free attempts resp. grade improvement attempts). Among those are e.g. studies abroad, involvement in boards and committees, pregnancies and longer exam incapability. Vacation and voluntary internships are not acceptable reasons since they are not part of your curriculum and on top they are also easier to schedule. An extension of exam deadlines must in any case be applied for in written for with the respective examination board. If possible, please use the provided form of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The extension can only be granted for those subjects for which you applied and it does not globally hold for all subjects which theoretically may be affected.
For those students getting ready for a study abroad, an application form for the extension of deadlines exists. It must be filled out and submitted prior to departure to guarantee a smooth processing. In general, the extension is always granted for one semester to begin with. If applicable, a new application must be submitted during the study abroad for another semester.
In case you receive a grade for an exam performance not until the beginning of your study abroad, you may submit the application for postponing the deadline for a free attempt for grade improvement after your departure. Therefore, the respective form might have to be filled out more than once. A submission of the form by fax to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is sufficient.
