  School's Graduation Ceremony Marcus Gerards

On October 26, 2013, the School of Business and Economics would like to welcome all of its graduates of the past year to the Graduation Ceremony in the Aula of RWTH Aachen University's Main Building.

All students who have passed their final  examination since the Graduation Ceremony in 2012  (and whose degree certificate has been completed and signed by the beginning  of October 2013) are considered to be graduates of the year 2013 and are entitled to attend the event. They will receive a personal invitation, which will be sent to the address that is registered with the ZPA examination department. It is, then, vital, that students have informed the ZPA of any  change of address in the meantime!

We look forward to welcoming as many of our graduates as possible, so please do try to attend this impressive event!

For the seventh time, the School has published a Graduate Year Book. This book is intended to serve as a momento of a student's time at RWTH Aachen University. Content submission deadline is November 15, 2013. Any student profiles that aren't with us by that time cannot, unfortunately, be included in the Graduate Year Book!

Registration for the Graduation Ceremony and the submission of your personal profile data will take place via an online portal.

At the beginning of September we will send out letters to all respective graduates. Each letter will contain an access code for MENTORAS - our online registration portal. At mentoras.wiwi.rwth-aachen.de graduates will find an online mask for registering for the ceremony. You will also be able to submit your personal details and upload a photo. These will then appear in the annual Graduate Yearbook. Unless you specifically grant us permission via the online portal to publish your name, details and photo, these will not be published in the Graduate Yearbook.

Graduation Ceremony: FAQ

Who is invited to the ceremony?

All those graduates will be invited whose graduation certificate has been completed and signed by the Dean and the Dean of Studies up to two weeks prior to the ceremony, so that these graduates will still have sufficient time to organize their attendance at the ceremony. Those graduates who have already been informed about the ceremony can - if they wish - receive an invitation up to two days prior to the ceremony, providing of course that their certificate has been duly signed. They should contact the Dean's Office. All those graduates who do not wish to be invited at short notice will naturally receive an invitation to the following year's ceremony.

What should I wear?

There is no official dresscode and anybody attending the ceremony can wear whatever they choose. However, as the ceremony is a formal event, men tend to wear a suit and women tend to wear a costume, a trouser suit, or perhaps a cocktail dress, but no full-length gowns.

What is the time schedule?

Graduates and their guests are requested to be present in the aula of the University's Main Building by 16.30 hours, so that the ceremony can begin on time at 17.00 hours. The orchestra of the University will be playing, an introductory speech will be held, and a graduate will also give a talk. Then, all graduates are individually called to the stage, where they are symbolically presented with a copy of their certificate. The official part of the ceremony is over by about 19.00 hours, depending of course on the length of the various speeches, pieces of music, and the number of graduates being awarded their certificates.

Will there be any food?

Following the ceremony, champagne and canapés will be served to all.

Will photos be taken?

This year, as in previous years, there will be an official photographer at the ceremony. He will be taking individual photos of our graduates during the presentation of certificates and will also take a group photograph of all graduates at the end of the ceremony. All graduates who attend the ceremony will be able to obtain free of charge a CD containing all the photos. Should you not wish to have your photograph taken during the presentation of certificates, please contact the Dean's Office prior to the ceremony and let them know. The telephone no. is 0241/80-96000 and the e-mail address is

  Dekanat-fb8@rwth-aachen.de

If you have no objection to having your photo taken, there is no need to give your written consent.

How can I obtain the CD with the photos on it?

All graduates who attended the ceremony will receive the CD free of charge by postal mail.

How can I get my details published in the Graduate Yearbook?

Every year, the School of Business and Economics publishes a Graduate Yearbook which contains details of our graduates.Graduates who wish to appear in the book should provide details of the academic degree acheived, their major subjects of study, and the title of their thesis. Please appreciate that we need all of these details from each graduate who wishes to appear in the book in order to ensure a uniform lay-out. We also have to insist on a photo. In order to ensure that all photos are of the same size, please crop them to size. Select the desired part of the photo and click on "cut". Of course it is always possible to upload a different photo if you decide to do so. Details about hobbies are optional!

For reasons of data protection, any graduates who do not wish to have their profiles published in the Graduate Yearbook will not be mentioned by name either in the Yearbook.

The book will be published after the ceremony and will then be automatically be sent out to those graduates who attended the ceremony or who did not attend but who are mentioned in the book. Editorial deadline is November 1, 2013.
