Business and Economics Seminars

General Registration Procedure

Generally, registration for seminars takes place during the last few weeks of the preceding semester in the offices of the Examination Board for Business Administration and Economics (Wirtschaftswissenschaftliche Prüfungsausschüsse), at Eilfschornsteinstrasse 16. For Business Administration and Engineering (Wirtschaftsingeneieurwesen) and the postgraduate degree in Business and Economics (WIWI Zusatz DPO 2005), there are two days of registration.  For Economics (VWL)  and Business Administration (BWL) and the "Diplom" degree in Business Administration and  the postgraduate degree in Business and Economics (WIWI Zusatz DPO 2003), there are also  two days. The actual dates for registration will be announced in good time on this website, as will the people heading the seminar. About one week before, full details of the seminars will be made available. Students are requested to provide up to five seminar choices. Should students not be able to attend registration in person, they can authorize another person to do so for them or contact the Examination Board beforehand.

Deception Attempts in Seminars

IMPORTANT NOTICE: We have to point out that only the seminar details which are to be found in the display cases of the Examination Board for Business Administration and Economics (WIWI-Prüfungsausschüsse) are legally binding.

Attempts at Deception: Seminar Papers or Theses

Unfortunately, the School of Business and Economics has repeatedly come across cases where students have failed to acknowledge other people's intellectual property, particularly with regard to texts that are available on the Internet.

In this context, I should like to make the following points:

Texts that contain another person's exact wording or paraphrased lines of thinking (sentences, parts of sentences, single words) must be clearly acknowledged as that person's. This also applies for texts found on the Internet. Failure to do so constitutes an attempt at deception.

If an examiner decides that an attempt at deception has been made, a grade of 5,0 will be awarded for the examination. It is not possible for a student to then improve this grade through written seminar work.

(§ 8 Abs. 5 Satz 1 Halbsatz 1) (Examination Regulations)

Consequences in the Case of a Repeated Offense

Any attempt at deception - as described above - will be brought to the attention of the Examination Board for Business Administration and Economics. In the case of a repeated offense, the Examination Board will decide whether the student will be disqualified from taking further examinations.

German Legal Basis : "In schwerwiegenden Fällen kann der Prüfungsausschuss die Kandidatin bzw. den Kandidaten von der Erbringung weiterer Prüfungsleistungen ausschließen.“ (§ 8 Abs. 5 Satz 4) (Examination Regulations).
