Why is there an equal opportunities officer?
Since 1993, the Federal Equal Opportunities Act and since November 1999, the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia Equal Opportunities Act have existed to promote and realize equal rights:
"In accordance with this act and other provisions for the equal treatment of women and men, women are promoted in order to break down existing disadvantages.The aim of the act is also to improve the compatability of career and family for women and men."
The Equal Opportunities Officer is supported by faculty representatives.
Promotion of Family and Equal Opportunities
The Equal Opportunities Officer and her deputies support the school in the implementation of the promotion of women and equal opportunities and offer members of the university advising on equal opportunities and equal treatment in accordnce with the General Equal Treatment Act.
They particulary work with the university's development planning, in structural and human resources decisions, and in the implementation and further development of promotional guidelines.
The Equal Opportunities Office also campaings for improvement in the compatability of family, studies, and carrer, in addition to its work promoting equal opportunities and the guarantee of equal treatment at the university. Various further education and qualification measures are implemented and advising is offered for university members. The GSB Family Services Center also functions as an advising and faciliation center for all questions regarding starting a family, childcare, and care for dependants. Orientation measures on studies and training at RWTH Aachen are organized for school students, which contribute to a flexibilization of traditional roles for men and women.
