What is the Entrepreneurship Center at RWTH Aachen?

Founded in 2000 – and accompanying between 30 to 40 start-ups a year –, the Entrepreneurship Center at RWTH Aachen aims to provide comprehensive support for business start-ups by the University’s students, graduates, and researchers.

A key player in the entrepreneurial landscape of the Aachen region, the Aachen Entrepreneurship Center, in close collaboration with the Aachen branch of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) and the Sparkasse savings banks in Aachen and Heinsberg, provides comprehensive services for young entrepreneurs, including support with the generation of ideas, advice on starting and funding a business, and post-start up support.

Start-Up Consulting and Start-Up Support

In 2003, in addition to the Entrepreneurship Center, the Chair of Business Administration and Sciences for Engineers and Natural Scientists headed by Professor Malte Brettel was established. The close collaboration between the institutions resulted in several entrepreneurial initiatives at RWTH Aachen.

Starting in 2007, with the help of the EXIST III entrepreneurship program by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, it was possible to distinctly extend our mobilization and coaching activities. Furthermore, the network of partners of the Entrepreneurship Center is continually growing. It was possible to create a value chain for young entrepreneurs and new businesses, with a focus on mobilization, training and coaching. Due to experience with about 30 to 40 new start-ups each year, the Center’s instructors have developed the necessary expertise to advise new and emerging businesses.

In order also to address students from RWTH Aachen and FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences, the TRACE program was launched, which gives students the opportunity to get insights into the processes of starting a company, develop entrepreneurial skills, and participate in entrepreneurial activities. Participating students have access to a growing network of entrepreneurs in Aachen. The Entrepreneurship Center provides support with the generation of ideas, business plans, and concrete start-up activities. Furthermore, it organizes ideas competitions and offers trainings and coachings for students.
