Our profile

The Institute of Electrical Machines (IEM) of RWTH Aachen University is a worldwide leading and recognized research institute specialized in the field of electromagnetic energy conversion and electrical drives. IEM collaborates with well-known partners in a large number of public and industrial funded research projects. These close contacts in the areas of industrial application, the automotive industry and regenerative energy production ensure that our research is up-to-date and relevant to the application. The interdisciplinary post graduate program "Integrated Energy Supply Modules for Roadbound E-Mobility" (mobilEM) is funded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The overall objective is the investigation of the physical foundations of electro-chemical energy storage and its combination with novel fuel-operated range extender units. We offer a 3-year PhD fellowship (fast track for qualified applicants with bachelor?s degree possible), an international and interdisciplinary academic network with fellow researchers and an extensive qualification and mentoring program.

Your profile

- Holder of a university degree (master or equivalent) in mechanical or electrical engineering with above average scores.
- Interest in innovative and interdisciplinary topics.
- High level of responsibility, initiative and team spirit.

Your responsibilities

- Development of electric high speed drive concepts.
- Design and construction of electrical machines.
- Development of modeling and simulation methods of innovative electrical high speed machine control concepts.
- Examination of electrical machine?s parasitic effects (thermal losses, acoustic radiation, etc.).
- Practical testing on test benches for electrical machines.

What we offer

The successful candidate will be employed as a regular employee.
The position is to be filled 01.10.2019 until 18 months. A further employment up to five years is planned.
This is a full-time position.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this position.
The salary corresponds to level EG 13 TV-L.
