Staff Council for Academic Staff

 

The Staff Council for Academic Staff - PRWiss for short - is represents the interests of academic, medical, and artistic staff at RWTH Aachen.

Responsibilities

In accordance with the Staff Representation Law, the Staff Council can codeterminate and support employees with important things like hiring, groupings, and extending contracts.

Meetings take place every Friday, during which members of the Staff Council advise on the matters concerning the Staff Council. Aside from case-by-case decisions, the Staff Council can arrange basic regulations with the department or service institution within the framework of a service agreements.

Codetermination

The process for personnel measures requiring codetermination, such as hiring, continued employment, grouping, or classification, is as follows:

  • The Division of Human Resources informs the Staff Council for Academic Staff about the planned measures and requests their consent within a determined deadline, usually within 14 days.
  • A member of the PRwiss establishes contact with the employees, in order to clear up issues, when necessary.
  • The PRwiss promptly consents to measures for the benefit of the employees. If the PRwiss does not give consent in an individual case, the measure is discuss with the Rector as Head of the Department in the interest of the employees.  As a rule, an acceptable solution for all those involved can be developed. If this is not possible, against all expectations, the affair is handled in the arbitration committee. In case of doubt, the Board of Governers makes the final decision.
