Redesign of Templergraben
Alternative Parking
Templergraben and the bordering areas between Wüllnerstraße, Eilfschornsteinstraße, and Schinkelstraße are being rebuilt and redesigned in several sections until approximately September 2013. As a result, the parking lots close to the corner of Barbarossamauer, Templergraben, and Eilfschornsteinstraße are displaced. These parking lots are marked in red on this adjusted map (de).
Rerouting of Buses
ASEAG has to partially change the route of several buses during the course of the building measures due to the one-way street ordinance in Templergraben for traffic in the direction of Königshügel.
The Job Ticket
Who is allowed to acquire a Job Ticket?
Basically all public servants and apprentices of RWTH Aachen may use the Job Ticket.
Exceptions:
- Student and enrolled academic assistants
- Public servants, who are simultaneously enrolled and are allowed to use the Semester Ticket
- Disabled individuals with a valid pass, who have a token for free rides on public transportation
- Public servants during parental leave (except those, who are still working with less hours during the legal period before the parental leave starts)
- Individuals who perform military or civil service
- Collaborative apprentices (Verbundauszubildende)
- Public servants who are suspended for more than one month without pay
- Public servants, who are on a leave of absence during partial retirement
- Visiting researchers, private lecturers, unbudgeted professors, and contract lecturers, if they do not have any other employment status or relationship with RWTH Aachen, that authorizes them to acquire a job ticket (For example wissenschaftliche Beamte or academic staff)
- Medical personnel, who work as part of the University Medical Center
Please note that job tickets cannot be issued for employment lasting less than four weeks.
How long are the job ticket and parking space management scheduled for?
The service agreement concluded with the staff councils, which announces the introduction of job ticket and parking space management at RWTH Aachen and the contract concluded with the public transportation company, AVV/ASEAG, for the job ticket, are initially valid for four years. All participants will review a potentional extension in due time while considering everyone's needs
Can I apply for the Job Ticket for solely business purposes and have it paid with university funds?
No.
How much does the Job Ticket cost?
RWTH Aachen apprentices all pay 15 Euros a month for the Job Ticket. The price for all other employees depends on their residence and the related Aachener Verkehrsverbund fare zone. Prices vary from 20 to 35 Euros.
The assignment to a fare zone is by the zip code, that is saved as your residence by the human resources department. The services, which the ticket allows you to take advantage of, are the same for all employees, regardless of one's location of resident or the fare zone.
Will the cost of the Job Ticket be raised in the near future?
Not until 2015. The four year contract period of the service agreement between the administrative office and staff councils ends at that time. Possible price increases made by the Aachener Verkehrsverbund will have no effect on the price you pay for your job ticket.
Am I required to buy the Job Ticket?
No.
When can I use the Job Ticket?
You can use your job ticket at any time, day and night, in all buses and trains within the Aachen Verkehrsverbund network.
Can other individuals use my ticket to take regional public transportation?
Yes and no. The job ticket is only valid for you as the owner and cannot be given to other individuals.
You can use the ticket all day as a family or group ticket Monday to Friday between 7pm and 3am of the following day, as well as on weekends and NRW holidays. During this time you can take along one additional adult and three children between six and 14 years of age free of charge. Children under six always ride for free in the Aachener Verkehrsverbund.
Exception: Unfortunately apprentices may not use their job ticket to take along additional riders.
Can I use my Job Ticket to take my bike with me without any additional costs?
No. Unfortunately, the Job Ticket does not allow you to take a bike with you.
In what areas can I use my Job Ticket?
The job ticket is valid in the entire Aachener Verkehrsverbund network. This comprises the region of Aachen as well as the districts of Düren and Heinsberg, which include 35 municipalities.
You can also go to neighboring counties with your job ticket in certain bus and train lines. This includes bus route 24 to Kelmis, routes 25 and 33 to Vaals, 34 to Kerkrade, routes 426 and SB3 to Sittard, and route 497 to Ubach over Worms.
Furthermore, AVV and ASEAG are currently in negotiations with the Belgian and Dutch public transportation associations for an expansion of the area in order to use the job ticket further across the national boundaries, particularly for bus routes 14 and 44.
Can I also use the Job Ticket for trains, in addition to buses?
Yes, for all regional trains. This includes the regional trains, regional express trains, Rurtalbahn, and the Euregiobahn in the German sections. This is valid in the direction of Cologne until Düren Main Train Station, and in the direction of Düsseldorf until Herrath Main Train Station.
Have regional public transportation services improved through the acquisition of the Job Ticket?
In the course of the introduction of the job ticket the AVV (public transport association) and ASEAG have already partially implemented improvements in local transit, particularly for the timetable change in 2010. Furthermore intensive negotiations with the AVV and ASEAG have resulted in further improvement measures, that are to be implemented for the change of the timetable in 2011.
After the conclusion of the contract between the RWTH Aachen and the AVV/ASEAG, a work group was additionally established in order to exchange experiences about regional transportation in the next four years and in order to check the implementation of need-orientated adjustments.
How can I apply for the Job Ticket?
You can first apply for the Job Ticket via the online portal and later extend, cancel, or report it in case of loss. Log in to the online portal with your TIM username and corresponding password. You will then receive the appropriate application form that is specific to you personally. Much of your personal information, which you need for the application, is automatically entered in the form. This means though that you cannot neither apply for the Job Ticket or parking permit without your TIM username.

TIM Activation
If you have not been activated for Identity Management yet, please do so. If you no longer know your password, please ask for a new one from the Center for Computing and Communication's ServiceDesk.

Is there a minimum purchase length for the Job Ticket?
Yes, three months. You are also able to put a time limit of a certain period on your Job Ticket, but it must be for at least three months. If you have an open-ended contract, then you can also apply for an open-ended job ticket. In this case, the job ticket is issued at the longest till the end of the calendar year, since AVV and ASEAG only issue tickets till the end of the year. You will automatically receive the job ticket for the following year after a calendar year has ended.
Those employed with the university for less than four weeks are not eligible for a job ticket.
Exception: Those eligible for a job ticket, whose employment is shorter than three months at the time of application, may receive a job ticket for less than three months.
How do I pay for my Job Ticket?
The charge of the job ticket is calculated for a whole month. This means you pay the charge for the whole month, if the beginning or end of the ticket acquisition is earlier than the end of the month. The fee for the job ticket is withdrawn monthly from your bank account . You agreed to this form of payment when filling out the application.
Simultaneously you agree to pay further charges in the event of charge back, for example as the result of a wrong bank account, cancellation of a bank account, or insufficient account funds.
Furthermore you commit to specifying you current address in the personal data processing system.
Where do I get the Job Ticket?
AVV/ASEAG will send your Job Ticket to your private mailing address.
When can I cancel my Job Ticket?
If you applied for the job ticket for the current calendar year or your job ticket is open ended, you can cancel it until November 15 of every year, and the ticket will be valid till December 31 of the same year. Please use the online form to do so.
If you are unsure whether you want the job ticket for the whole year, we suggest applying for the job ticket for a limited time and then extending it if you so desire.
I lost my Job Ticket. What do I do?
Use the online form to inform Division 10.5 that you have lost your Job Ticket. AVV/ASEAG will issue you a new Job Ticket and will send it to your private mailing address. A replacement ticket costs ten euros. This fee will be deducted at the next time of billing.
How can I extend my Job Ticket?
You can enter a new subscription period at any time to extend your Job Ticket by using the online form. You will receive your new Job Ticket from AVV/ASEAG at your private mailing address.
I am currently completing vocational training. What happens to my ticket after I pass my final exams?
You will receive your job ticket during the vocational training period till the day that is marked as the end of yuor training in the personal data processing system.
The actual moment you pass your final exams may however, take place before this date. If this is the case, your vocational training is considered finished when your exams are. Please send your job ticket back to Division 10.5 within five days.
Please note: If you do not sent your job ticket back within five days, we are allowed to take a double fee from your account until you have returned it.
If you continue to work for RWTH Aachen after passing your exams, you may use your job ticket unti lthe end of the current month as an apprentice job ticket. Please send your job ticket back to Division 10.5 after the end of the month of expiry.
Please note: If you do not sent your job ticket back within five days, we are allowed to take a double fee from your account until you have returned it.
At the same time, you can apply for an employee job ticket starting the following month by using the online form.
I am no longer authorized to have a Job Ticket. What do I need to do?
If have a Job Ticket, that is valid beyond your period of employment, please send it immediately back to Division 10.5.

Parking Space Management
What do I need to know about the new parking permit?
The parking permits are issued in the form of a person chip card with an electronic identifier (RFID-Hard-Tags). This electronic ID is only readable with a special reading device.
The parking permit does not contain any personal information. The necessary data is held in a database, which cannot be seen by the parking surveillance staff. The parking surveillance staff has a reading device on which they can see the validity of the pass, the license plate number, and parking zone. That means that the employees have neither personal data nor the name of the owner on the parking permit.
Please place your parking permit in a visible part of your front windshield so that our reading devices are able to read the pass without any complications.
Who can acquire a parking permit?
- All individuals allowed to acquire a Job Ticket
- RWTH Aachen employees not allowed to have a Job Ticket, such as enrolled employees, entitled to the Semester Ticket
- Students
- Student and academic assistants
- Employees of other institutions, whose workplace is in RWTH Aachen buildings and exercise university related responsibilities there
- Employees of RWTH Aachen Affiliated Institutes, who have made all of the surrounding space at the Affiliated Institute available as RWTH Aachen parking space
- Senior citizens completing studies
- Emeriti
- Scholarship recipients
- Guests of university institutions, for example to doctoral studies celebrations
- Students, who attend bridge courses

How much does the parking permit cost?
The parking permit is five euros a month. If you have a job ticket, you receive the parking permit for free.
Please note: You must apply for the parking permit in addition to the job ticket on the application form.
Please also note: Disabled individuals with a designation of aG, G, BL, or GL receive the parking permit free of charge. The minimum time frame must be adhered to. Does the parking permit give me right to a open parking spot?
No.
In what parking lots does my parking permit allow me to park?
If you work in a soley staff parking zone like campus "Mitte", you will receive a parking permit that allows you to park in parking zone C.
Your office location determines which parking zone is assigned to you.
If your office is located in parking zone T, you are still allowed to park your car in parking zone C.
The general parking zones which are outside the campus center are marked with a U. The parking permits for zone C are also valid for zone U.
Please note: Students are only allowed to park in parking zone U. They are neither authorized to park in zone C nor to park their cars in special parking lots. Information regarding the location of parking zones can be obtained in Division 10.5.
How can I apply for a parking permit?
You can use the online portal for staff or the online portal for students to apply for the parking permit for the first time, extend or cancel it, and to report in case of loss. All heads of university institutions are strongly recommended to provide all employees with access to the online portal.
I am disabled. How do I get my parking permit?
Disabled employees and students also apply for their parking permit in the same way described above. Disabled individuals with a designation of aG, G, BI, or GI can get the parking permit free of charge. You or an authorized individual can pick up the pass in person upon presentation of an original copy of the disability ID in Division 10.5.
The disabled parking permit for handicap parking spots are issued by the Concerns for Employees with Disabilities upon review of eligibility requirements. Individuals must show a valid parking permit from Division 10.5. The Concerns for Employees with Disabilities will gladly answer your questions at any time.
Concerns for Employees with Disabilities can offer you an overview of all the handicap parking spaces on University property.
Please note: You are only authorized to park in a handicap parking lot if you display both the handicap parking permit and the university parking permit.
Is there a minimum time frame for the parking permit?
Yes, six months.
Exception: If your contract is for less than six months, you can also apply for parking permit for less than six months.
Indefinite Contracts
Employees with indefinite contracts can receive their parking permit for an indefinite period of time. In this case, a note of the possible end of employment is made in our databank.
Students
The parking permit for students is issued each semester. Students need to apply for the parking permit every semester. The parking permit becomes valid upon application for the current semester or after successful re-enrollment for the new semester and is valid till the end of the semester.
How do I pay for my parking permit?

How do I get my parking permit?
Division 10.5 creates your parking permit and sends it to an employee's business address and a student's private address.
How can I cancel my parking permit?
Cancellation of a parking permit before the originally scheduled end date is possible. After the six month minimum duration, you can apply to cancel your parking permit by the end of the month. The cancellation will then become valid one month later. Please use the online form for employees or the online form for students. In case of cancellation, parking permits are to be returned to Division 10.5.
I lost my parking permit. What do I do?
Use the online form for employees or the online form for students to inform Division 10.5 that you have lost your parking permit. Department 10.5 will create a new pass and send it to your business address (for students to their private address). The replacement copy is ten euros. This fee will be withdrawn from your account during the next billing.
How can extend my parking permit?
Please us the online form for employees or the online form for students. When you extend the period of use here, it will be electronically booked on your parking permit. You will not receive a new parking permit.
Can I park with different cars in RWTH Aachen parking lots?
Yes. You can specify up to three license plate numbers when you apply for the parking permit. Your parking permit authorizes you to park with corresponding vehicles.
If you need authorization for another car within a short period of time, for example for a rental car, you can use the online form for employees or the online form for students to change the license plate number.
Please note: The change to your license plate number will first take effect the following day due to the necessary synchronization of the reading devices.
How can I park with a "Cambio" or rental car in RWTH Aachen parking lots?
When you apply for the parking permit, you can specify up to three license plate numbers. The permit then authorizes you to park with one of the three cars. This is not possible when you use a Cambio car, since you often do not know the license plate number of the Cambio car early enough in advance. Therefore, you can fill in one of the three boxes for the license plate numbers with the word "Cambio". The surveillance staff can then read this on their reading devices.
If you are using a rental car, click on the button rental car, when filling out the personal application form.
What are the regulations for parking in parking zone S?
The previous procedure for issuing free parking permits for parking zone S, that is the parking levels of the Seminargebäude and Kármán-Auditorium, with the appropriate allotment calculation will continue. Please contact Division 10.5 for further information.
The special parking permit for these parking zones is not sufficient. You must additionally display either your personal parking permit or a visitor permit for the university institution.
Where can I park with the special parking permit?
The special parking permit is now valid in the entire Zone C, thats is the Campus Mitte central area. This offers all the institutions outside of the central area, who are located in parking zone U, the possibility to take care of official business. The special parking permit can be used in Zone C together with the personal parking permit, which is solely valid in Zone U, or a visitor parking permit.
How can guests park in RWTH Aachen parking areas?
Every university institution can apply for guest permits. These are neither specific to a person nor a car and are valid in parking zones S and U. The number of guest permits your university can get depends on the hitherto existing regulations for special parking permits and the allotment calculation. Please contact Division 10.5 for further information.
How much does a guest parking permit cost?
A guest parking permit costs five euros a month.
Can I buy a visitor parking permit for celebrations such as doctoral studies celebrations?
Yes, please contact the staff in Division 10.5. The cost of parking permits for such celebrations is ten euros for 20 tickets.
What are conference tickets?
Does your university institution often put on events or once in a while hold a conference at which you have visitors from out-of-town? We have three types of conference tickets available for these events:
Conference Ticket via Web Shop
The conference ticket via the web shop offers the possibility for creating so-called voucher codes, which are listed in and issued through an Excel table. One voucher code corresponds to one parking permit. These voucher codes can be sent to conference participants and activated by them via a ilnk. The program issues the personal conference parking permit, which the participant prints out. The advantage of this process is that only those conference tickets must be paid that are activated via the link.
Self-Management Tickets
The self-management is a suitable option when you regularly hold events and can no longer accomodate the number of visitors with the number of visitor parking permits you already have. Self-management tickets can be issued by Division 10.5, for either one or two days. You simply apply for the number of tickets you wish and then receive the corresponding number as a bulk letter. Upon need, you allocate a portion of the tickets issued to your conference participants. You decide for yourself, whether you send participants the tickets in paper form via the mail or electronically via email.
Ad-hoc Tickets
The ad-hoc tickets are available for institutions who seldom hold conferences. With your application, Division 10.5 will issue the corresponding number of tickets as a bulk letter, which you can send the participates via mail or email. The informal transaction via the BSCW server will no longer take place.
Costs
The cost for each of the three different tickets is five euros a day and are paid via transfer through authorization provided in the applications.
I work on Campus Melaten or Hörn. I have business in "Campus Mitte". Where can I park?
You can park in the entire Parking Zone C (Campus MItte) and use the parking levels of the Seminargebäude and Kármán-Auditorium. Bouth areas belong to special parking zone S. In order to use these areas, you need a special parking permit. You can get these at your university institution. Additionally you need your personal parking permit or a guest parking permit. You can also get the guest pass at your university institution. For more information, please see "special parking permit" below.
I am Emeritus, but I am still officially working at RWTH Aachen. Where can I park?
You can obtain a parking permit for Zone U. Please use the corresponding application form (de).
How can my university institution apply for special parking permits and guest parking permits?
Please apply for a special parking permit (de) in Division 10.5. Please indicate the cost center of your university institution. This is absolutely necessary, so that the fee for the guest parking permit is covered.
Are there any special regulations for students?
If you study at RWTH Aachen, yi are able to get a parking permit for one semester at a time. You apply for a parking permit for the following semester, after you have enrolled or re-enrolled. The parking permit becomes valid upon application for the current semester or after successful re-enrollment for the new semester and is valid till the end of the semester. If you apply for the parking permit less than three months before the semester end you have to pay a fixed price of 15 Euros.
I work at an affiliated institute. Can I use RWTH Aachen parking lots?
Affiliated insititutes that leave their parking spaces to RWTH Aachen's parking space management can apply (de) for a parking permit. This costs five euros a month and must be purchased for at least six months.
Affiliated institutes can take part in the in RWTH Aachen's parking space management if their parking areas are subject to the parking regulations of RWTH Aachen.
Which affiliated institutes participate in RWTH Aachen's parking management program?

Where can cars belonging to the institutes park?
University institutions can buy parking permits, each five euros a month, for their company vehicles from Division 10.5. These parking permits are for the parking zones in which they are located. Reserved parking lots are not available.
Please enter the cost center of your university institution in the application form so that the fee for the guest parking permit can be paid.
Where do external company vehicles park?
If you work for or have a service agreement with RWTH Aachen, you can apply (de) for a parking permit. The form can also be given to you by Division 10.5 by telephone, be mail, or in person.
Company parking permits cost
- 180 Euros annually
- 30 Euros a month
- 5 Euros a day
You pay the respective amount in cash in Division 10.5, when picking up the parking permit.
Can motorized two-wheeled vehicles be parked in RWTH Aachen's parking lots?
No, since it is not possible to control for valid parking permit.
What parking zones are the guest parking permits valid for?
Guest may only park in parking zone U and in the special parking areas S/Gast with their guest parking permit. In special parking zones S in the center, the guest parking permits are only valid when with the special parking permit S.
Can I use my parking permit for zone U to park in the center?
Regulations are not effect Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays as well as business days from 6pm to 7am. This means, that all employee and students parking permits can be used in all parking zones except in parking zone S. Please check the business hours for individual parking lots before parking.
Control of Parking Areas
Are parking regulations enforced?
The division ensures surveillance over the entire parking area from at least 7am to 6pm, but not on non-business or working days. All parking areas are controlled at least once a day at random times. If necessary, controls are also made on other days and beyond the regular time frame.
Who controls the parking areas?
Parking area control is conducted by employees of RWTH Aachen.
What happens if I do not follow the parking regulations?
If you do not possess valid authorization to park, your vehicle will be towed by a company contracted by RWTH Aachen.
How is control of the parking area technically performed?
Your parking pass contains an electronic chip with an electronic ID (RFI-Hard-Tags), that are only readable with special reading devices. No personal information is listed on the parking permit. The necessary data is saved in a databank. The employees who control the parking areas only have access to the data necessary for the control. This includes length of validity, valid license plate numbers, and parking zones. Information about the owner of the parking permit cannot be viewed.
Please note: Place your parking permit in a visible field of your windshield so that the reading devices can capture the data accordingly.
Data Protection
Is protection of my personal data ensured?
The transmission of the data necessary to issue and bill for the job ticket is discussed in the contract between RWTH Aachen and the Aachener Verkehrsverbund as well as a second additional contract regarding the transmission of the data. Both of these are controlled by RWTH Aachen's data protection officer. The involvement the data protection officer is also ensured during the process for transferring the data necessary to issue and bill for the parking permit.
What information does ASEAG get?
ASEAG only receives your information if you have applied for a Job Ticket. In this case, only the data necessary for the ticket to be issued is transferred. This includes first and last name, and the validity of the ticket. ASEAG also receives your private address so that the Job Ticket can be sent to you.
Due to the agreement with ASEAG regarding the transmission of data that was arranged with the data protection officer, all data transferred is password protected and encrypted. The data is only used for the creation, billing, and processing of the Job Ticket and will not be given to anyone else. The data is deleted as soon as it is no longer needed.
Which of my data can be read by the parking inspection staff?
No personal information is listed on the parking permit. The necessary data, which you enter in the application form, is saved in a databank of Division 10.5. The employees who control the parking areas use a reading device to view only the data necessary for the control. This includes length of validity, valid license plate numbers, and parking zones.

Whom can I contact if I have questions?
You can contact Division 10.5 - Infrastructural Facilities Management if you have questions about parking space management and the Job Ticket.
With the introduction of the Job Ticket and parking space managemetn, a committee was created, that reviews social hardship cases and cases of exception. The committee is made up of two representatives from the administrative office and four individuals from the staff councils. In the case that the concerns of disabled individuals are affected, their representative will be consulted. If aspects of equal treatment play a roll, the equal opportunities officer will likewise be consulted. The committee will work out mutual solutions for the applications. These can be submitted to Division 10.5 – Infrastructural Facilities Management.
The administration has also set up a feedback portal in agreement with AVV/ASEAG on the homepage for the Job Ticket and parking space management.
