What can you do when your childcare provider suddenly cancels or flexible holidays arise, but you have work you cannot postpone?  What do you do with your child, when the daycare center is temporarily closed?

 

Oh no, oh no! - the Childcare is Gone!

Since summer 2010, the new Parent-Child Rooms have been a further instrument for improving the compatability of family, studies, and career at RWT Aachen.
Here students and university employees have the possibility to supervise their children at the last minute, flexibly, and in a central location, and in emergencies, to have their children looked after upon agreement with the Family Services Center. The rooms can also be used for playing or romping during breaks, for example between lectures or appointments.  The rooms have space for multiple childen, so that parents can help each other, for example if they would like to take turns participating in learning groups, seminars, or meetings.  Mothers of very young children also have the possibility to nurse or change diapers in a quiet atmosphere.  In addition to the corresponding facilities for childcare, the light and colorful rooms offer a comprehensive collection of toys and children's books.

Child and Science- the "KiWi" Room

The Department of Computer Science Library has a special corner: book and magaines are not stacked here, but rather children play while their parents do research.  Additionally there is a changing table and a spot, where mothers can nurse their children.  The Department of Computer Science Library received the "family friendly" rating from the city of Aachen for the corner.

Parent-Child Office

Parent-child offices offer parents who belong to the university flexiblie superivision opportunities, in that they can bring their children drirectly to wor. Such a fallback is practical particularly in case of emergencies, if daycare is cancelled, the daycare center is closed, or other superivision cannot be arranged on such short notice. Contact the Family Services Center if you are interested in having a Parent Child-Office established. The center will gladly advise and support you.
