Honoring Outstanding Performance in Teaching

Since 2011, RWTH Aachen has awarded a Teaching Award, in order to recognize outstanding performance in teaching at the university.  The Teaching Award is endowed with 18000 Euros, first place with 9000 Euros, second place with 6000 Euros, and third place with 3000 Euros. The respective prize money should be invested in teaching and research, whereby two thirds of the funds must be used for teaching.

Support of the Learning Process and Superior Involvement

The tradition of the Teaching Award was also continued in 2012. In accordance with RWTH Aachen's Excellent Teaching Institutional Strategy, which aims at improving basic teaching at RWTH Aachen, teachers should be promoted to particularly commit themselves to very good, innovative teaching. Outstanding teaching strategies, the support for students, or superior commitment to teaching are at the focus.

Since RWTH Aachen has an extraordinarily broad sprectrum of classes and subjects, many activities are suited to the Teaching Award. The Rectorate looks forward to numerous nominations.

2013 Teaching Award

Nominations for the 2013 Teaching Award can be made in the Department of Planning until July 15, 2013.

Nominations and Process

Nominations are collected by the Department of Planning and are submitted to the Rectorate's Committee for Quality Management in Teaching, if all formal criteria are fulfilled. The committee evalutes nominations on the basis of the criteria for awarding the Teaching Award and then make a recommendation to the Rectorate.
