Language Proficiency Certificates

As part of your application for participation in an exchange programme or for a scholarship, you must usually provide a certificate proving your language proficiency. At RWTH, language certificates are issued by the Arts and Humanities Language Center. RWTH students have the opportunity to participate in language courses and thus prepare for study abroad. Participation is free of charge.

To apply for a DAAD programme, please use the DAAD form "Language Certificate for German Applicants" available for download on the DAAD web pages.

If you have to provide evidence of proficiency in a language for which there are no examiners at RWTH, we advides you to contact lecturers from other universities. In many cases, certificates provided by other institutions (e.g. VHS) suffice. Please consult the provider of the certificate and get in touch with our staff at the International Office.

Some further tips:

  • At the Info Service Center, you can take a look at the DAAD brochure Sprachkurse an Hochschulen in Europa - Language Courses at European Universities.
  • In the International Office floors of the SuperC building you can find posters and leaflets by language course providers. Please note that we cannot give any recommendations as to which course providers are most suitable. Most offers are commercial, and that there are only very few offers combined with scholarships.
