Preparing for Study Abroad
Here just a few hints and tips for students who are admitted to the ERASMUS program:
Planning your Stay Abroad: Some useful Tips
- As soon as your application has been approved by your faculty or by the faculty's ERASMUS coordinator, you should visit the website of your host university in order to get detailed information on the registration procedure for ERASMUS students. Although you will be registered with your host university by the faculty, some host universities demand a separate registration in written or in electronic form (online registration) by a certain deadline. The sooner you know about - and complete - these formalities, the better.
- Please take your time to look into the numerous experience reports by former ERASMUS students, which contain useful information for on your upcoming study abroad period. Your faculty or the Info Service Center of the International Office can provide you with a host of experience reports.
- A very good source of information is the student organisation AEGEE, which also offer regular get togethers for incoming ERASMUS students. Here, you may establish valuable contacts and get first-hand information on your host university.
- Please prepare youself for your study abroad period by acquiring a basic knowledge (at least!) of the language of your host country, even if your courses and seminars are given in English.
- The website for the Nationale Agentur für EU-Hochschulzusammenarbeit offers intercultural preparation, tips specific to countries, and a forum for discussion for studies and internships in the European Union.
