DAAD STIBET Supervision Allowance

 

Supervision Allowance for international students of RWTH Aachen University in the amount of 250 Euros per month

Utilizing funds provided by the German Academic Exchange Service, DAAD, the International Office of RWTH Aachen University is pleased to offer financial support to three students during the summer semester 2013.  In trade, individuals receiving assistance will be expected to provide approximately four hours per week of support to the University. Specific areas for which student support is sought are listed below.

Criteria for eligibility

• be international students following a regular program of studies at RWTH Aachen (exchange students are NOT eligible to apply for this opportunity)
• have completed at least two semesters of coursework and be in good academic standing
• possess excellent communication skills in English and/or German; proficiency in another language is, of course, always appreciated
• be extroverted, demonstrate cross-cultural understanding and enjoy working as part of a team
• possess computer skills and be comfortable working with Office software
• approximately four hours per week of support

Positions and Responsibilities

To receive financial support, a scholarship recipient will be expected to undertake the duties listed in one of the following areas.  All activities will be carried out in close collaboration with the International Office.

1. Support to students in their search for housing

In collaboration with the International Office’s Housing Service and INCAS’ Wohnungssuche program, a scholarship recipient serving in this capacity would provide assistance to international students in their search for an apartment or flat-share on the private housing market.  Duties of this position would include browsing for suitable housing ads, phoning landlords and accompanying students on visits to potential apartments.  Individuals interested in this position are expected to be knowledgeable of the local housing situation, such that they could provide advice about apartment hunting in Aachen.

• A good command of the German language is required of applicants to this position

2. Organization of Sprachtandems for international students

Sprachtandems are an undertaking of INCAS. As a coordinator of language tandems, a scholarship
recipient acting in this role would provide support to students who are interested in learning another
language. Duties would include the organization of regular meetings between interested students and
speakers of their desired target language.

3. Organization of the International Dienstag program

International Dienstag is a recurring event coordinated by INCAS. Each Tuesday evening, the
Humboldt-Haus, located at 41 Pontstraße, plays host to an international night, at which a variety of
culturally-themed events are held. A scholarship recipient acting in this function would work closely with the volunteer team that comprises INCAS.

• Certificate of enrollment (Studienbescheinigung) and transcript of grades (Notenspiegel), both of which can be printed from Campus-Office
• Information regarding any other scholarships or sources of funding you currently possess as well as your current work activities.
