Teaching Staff Mobility

The ERASMUS mobility programme gives RWTH lecturers the opportunity to take on a temporary teaching position at an ERASMUS partner university. Grants and allowances are awarded to faculty members of RWTH Aachen University who are nationals of an EU member state or another country which participates in the ERASMUS programme; permanent residents of Germany are also eligible. Luxembourg or Liechtenstein nationals however cannot funded. As there is only a limited amount of funding available, it is usually not possible to approve all applications.

Goals of the Staff Mobility Scheme

In order to promote the internationalisation of universities on several levels, the student exchange scheme is complemented by a staff mobility programme, which is to encourage university staff to take on short-term positions abroad so that they contribute to the curriculum of partner universities and learn from best practice. Not only are lecturers are given the opportunity go to enhance their career and personal development, but they also contribute to the internationalization of their host university, promoting the exchange of knowledge and experience among European teachers and students. Further, the collaboration between ERASMUS universities is extended and deepened.

Requirements

In order to apply for a teaching mobility grant, staff members must ensure that there is an active bilateral agreement in place between RWTH and the partner institution.

Financial Aid

  • The teaching contract must comprise at least 5 class hours for a minimum stay of 5 days.
  • The maximum grant that may be awarded from Erasmus funds is 780 € / week.
  • The cost refund will be made on the basis of receipted expenditure, which will be taken into account according to the Federal Travel Cost Act of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
  • It is expected that the respective faculty or institute provides complementary funding
  • Should you apply for funding for a period of one week, the teaching plan must demonstrate that teaching activities have been undertaken on each day of the period reported. 

Application for Financial Funding

Informal Application

  • The informal application must include:
  • First and last names of the applicant
  • Faculty/department
  • Topic of your teaching project
  • Teaching period
  • Amount of class hours
  • Partner university
  • Specification whether the staff exchange is on a mutual basis
  • Approval by the dean by signature

Approval

The ERASMUS coordinator of RWTH Aachen University at the International Office will review and decide on the application. The lecturer will then receive a notification of the outcome of his or her application. According to DAAD regulations, in case of approval, the notification includes the so-called Teaching Staff Assignment as well as forms to be filled in such as the declaration of acceptance, the teaching staff report and a certificate confirming the teaching period.

Insurance

Please note that the Teaching Staff Mobility funding does not include any insurance. The European Commision, the DAAD, and RWTH Aachen University shall not be held liable for any damage incurred from sickness, death, accident, bodily injury, loss or damage of property resulting from the period of stay abroad.
