Henry Ford Scholarships
This scholarship programme has been created by RWTH Aachen University in collaboration with Ford-Werke GmbH in order to promote female students in engineering degree courses.
Eligible to apply are female school and university students with promising school or academic performance who are also engaged in extra-curricular activities.
The Henry Ford Scholarship aims at encouring young women to take up engineering degree programmes. Scholarship winners not only receive a monthly stipend, but are also invited to take part in several other activities.
General Outline
The scholarship holders work as a team. They are responsible for the disposition of the budget, for the organisation and realisation of the scholarship framwork programme. They receive support from mentors and the respeonsible staff of RWTH Aachen University and Ford-Werke GmbH.
Activities

establishment of contacts to fellow students

seminars on rethoric, presentations, problem solving techniques, time management, teamwork and project management

practical training: presentations, organisation, discussion, planning and other "soft skills"

computer and language courses, repair and driving security training, field trips to companies,

participation in conferences, fairs, contacting events, etc.

contacts to industry by means of internships, research projects and diploma theses,

an introduction to professional experience with the help of mentors

contacts to and exchange with engineers
Financial Support
Apart from taking part in a framework programme of activities (see above), scholarship winners receive a monthly stipend of €300. This sum consists of €150 sponsored by Ford-Werke GmbH and another €150 contributed by RWTH's Education Fund.
The monthly installments of the stipend are paid in advance for upcoming semesters upon submission of the current enrolment certificate and of the transcripts/academic record of the preceding semester. The eligibility of each scholarship holder is thus reappraised for each semester.
Funding Duration
The eligibility of each scholarship holder is reappraised for each semester. The funding duration for the different degree courses is as follows:
- Bachelor's students: funding may be provided until the completion of the degree course, the maximum funding period extends over the first eight semesters (for a 7-semester degree course).
- Master's students in 3-semester programmes: funding may be provided until the completion of the degree course, with a max. funding period of 4 semesters. The max. funding period of 4 semesters also applies to students who have obtained their Bachelor's degree elsewhere and for this reason take up a one-semester preparation course for the Master's programme at RWTH.
- Bachelor's students who take up a Master's degree programme upon completion of their Bachelor's degree are eligible for a 11-semester funding period (if their academic performance is sufficient throughout).
- Students in 4- and 6-semester Master's programmes typically international programmes taught in English): funding may be provided until completion of the course; the max. funding period is 5 and 7 semesters respectively.
