Who is Eligible to Apply?

Eligible to apply for funding are students with an above average degree which qualifies for doctoral studies. The applicant's research endeavour is expected to make an important and original contribution in the respective field of study.

The Applicant must be enrolled as a doctoral student at RWTH Aachen University.

As a rule, the basic scholarship should be awarded within one year after graduation. The research degree completion grant is to be awarded after the period of employment of the doctoral candidate as a research assistant.

What Types of Scholarship are Being Awarded?

As a rule, basic scholarships are awarded for a period of two years; under exceptional circumstances, the period may be extended for up to one year.

The research degree completion grant is available to graduates who have worked as research assistants at RWTH for a period between 2 and 4 years and whose qualification lets the award committee expect an outstanding doctoral dissertation. Research jobs at non-university institutions or companies may also be taken into account if the candidate has worked as an RWTH research assistant for at least one year.
