Renuka Ravindran

Information about our Alumna Prof. Dr. Renuka Ravindran is an Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. She did her M.Sc. in Mathematics from the University of Madras, her Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Science, and her Dr.-Ing. Degree from RWTH Aachen University. She is author of numerous research papers on wave propagation and non-Newtonian fluids. She has given many popular lectures on mathematics, takes a deep interest in mathematics education at all levels and has significantly contributed to the preparation of text books of school level.

Interview with Renuka Ravindran

Why did you decide to study or complete a research stay at RWTH Aachen University?

My main intention was to do research at RWTH Aachen on theoretical problems of fluid dynamics and confirm my research results.

Do you remember your first day here in Aachen? What were your impressions then?

At the beginning of my stay I was welcomed by my PhD superviser, Prof. Dr.-Ing. H. Zeller, who has taken good care of me during my stay in Aachen.

What did you learn at RWTH Aachen University that helped you in your further academic career?

I was given the opportunity to conduct different experiment, thus learning a lot. Furthermore, I was able to visit a number of lectures which made quite an impression on me.

Could you describe in a few sentences your most rewarding experience from your time here in Aachen?

Most rewarding for me was to meet so many well-known professors and to get the chance to discuss scientific topics with them.

If a student asks you why she or he should go abroad to spend a research period or exchange semester at RWTH Aachen University, what would you say?

If you are interested in studying at RWTH Aachen: its worth it.

Anything else you would like to mention?

By the way, Aachen is a very good place for foreigners.
