What is the Center for Doctoral Studies?

The Center for Doctoral Studies (CDS) is the center for providing continuing education and transferable skill training opportunities for doctoral candidates.  Our staff organizes, plans, and hold courses for doctoral candidates to expand their interdisciplinary skills.  Methodological and social skills are particularly valued.  One of RWTH Aachen's goals is for its young researchers not only to possess excellent subject oriented skills but also a broad range of skills outside of their discipline. The CDS supports doctoral candidates with their career development.

Who is the Center for Doctoral Studies intended for?

One of RWTH Aachen's goals within its integrated Human Resources Development Concept, is to promote the professional development and career of its doctoral candidates. For this reason, RWTH Aachen offers further training measures within CDS to

•    All doctoral candidates in Faculties 1 through 8
•    Doctoral candidates in Faculty 10, pursuing the degrees "Dr. rer. medic." or "Dr. nat. med."
•    Participants in the structured RWTH Aachen doctoral program (Graduate Schools)

Your Registration with the CDS

You can register with the CDS as soon as you have a written letter of confirmation from your supervisor.  Have your supervisor sign your CDS registration form and turn it in to the CDS office in Room 317 of the RWTH Aachen Main Building at Templergraben 55, 52062 Aachen. You can reach us in person Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 1:30pm.

Please note: CDS requires the original registration form with signatures. Unfortunately we cannot accept copies. The complete registration form for CDS consists of the application for acceptance to CDS, the supervision application, and the statement of consent for saving your data.

Additionally, please provide a signed statement of consent, in which you agree to allow the CDS to save your personal information. This statement of consent is part of the registration to CDS. Registration with the CDS has no influence on your acceptance to the doctoral studies program; this is determined by the respective faculty.  The CDS expects you to complete your doctoral dissertation in due course.
