Admission Requirements for Doctoral Studies

You have your Master's behind you and your future stands before you: Those looking for academic work after their studies often complete doctoral studies first.

In accordance with current edition of Section 67 Paragraph 1 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act, doctoral studies are designated as the ability to conduct independent scientific work through a general academic goal in accordance with Section 58 Paragraph 1 HG. This ability is determined by a scientific written work or dissertatio and further examinations. The doctoral degree is awarded upon completion of doctoral studies.

Enrollment in doctoral studies is restricted to twelve semesters. This period can only be extended with the approval of the doctoral studies board.

German citizens and other persons with legal equivalence, such as EU or EEA citizens, can find more about doctoral studies at RWTH Aachen on the Doctoral Studies pages. Application to a doctoral studies course of study is not required for these individuals. If you fulfill the enrollment requirements, you can enroll for doctoral studies.
