Nationwide Allocation of University Places through the hochschulSTART Agency
The hochschulSTART Agency (previously ZVS, Zentrale Vergabestelle für Studienplätze) allocated university placements to applicants for the first semester of a course of study. At RWTH Aachen this pertains to the subjects medicine and dentistry.
If you wish to change your placement in a higher semester, you will have to directly apply at RWTH Aachen for an open or soon to be open spot.
General Selection Process [applies nationwide for medicine and dentistry (Staatsexamen)]:
After pre-allocated spots have been subtracted, university placements are allocated over three groups.
20% of the spots are given to the best graduates of a cohort, another 20% are given to applicants with the longest waiting period.
The remaining 60% of spots are allocated by RWTH itself, using its own criteria in an independent selection process. The Abitur grade is the sole selection criterion. HochschulSTART formally handles the allocation of this 60%.
Please note: The only applicants who participate in this specific selection process for RWTH Aachen, are those are listed RWTH as one of their top three choices in their application.
