Allocation of University Placements through RWTH
Application for the first semester of study
A number of university placements are distributed by RWTH itself, in the following manner:
After:
- 7% of the university placements are reserved for international applicants and
- 3% of the university placements are allocated to second degree applicants
the remaining spots are allocated by the University using the following criteria:
- 20% are allocated according to the average Abitur grade/GPA (Leistungsquote)
- 20% are for applicants who have waited multiple semesters (the longer the waiting period, the greater the chance a student has of receiving a placement)
-
60% are allocated by the university to applicants through its own allocation process. Curently, only the GPA is used as a selection criterion.
Exception: The Department of Mathematics has decided that 30% of the selection decision is weighted by the results of a subject specific aptitude test for the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Education in Mathematics.
The Registrar's Office and Student Advice Centre can provide you with more information about the allocation process.
Application for Higher Course Semester (starting with the second course semester)
Information on applying to a higher core semester at RWTH Aachen will first be available to download from the bottom of this page at the beginning of August.
Some courses of study also have restricted admission in higher course semesters, i.e. starting with the second semester. These also require an application. You can find the list of courses of study with this requirement below.
Submitting an application to HochschulSTART for a higher course semester in medicine or dentistry is not allowed.
A limited number of spots are available for each course semester in each restricted admission course of study. The number of students within a semester who have re-enrolled within the registration period is subtracted from this available number of spots.
If there are still spots available after the re-enrollment deadline, these will be allocated to applicants in the corresponding subjects and course semesters through a selection process.
Please note: You will only be notified if you have been granted a spot. Rejection letters will not be sent.
Application Deadline for Admission to Higher Course Semesters
For a winter semester: September 15th of every year
For a summer semester: March 15th of every year
