Prospective students, who wish to begin a Master course of study with open admission in summer semester 2013, should refer to their Faculty's webpages to see if an application to review their educational background can still be submitted and where to submit it.
Please do not submit any written applications for winter semester 2013/2014 to the Registrar's Office. Instead, please read the following information carefully.
If you have any questions, please contact the
Step 1
You must first submit an application by July 15, 2013, to have your subject specific background education reviewed. The application form with all the relevant information will be opened at the beginning of May.
The signed application form and other required documents must be submitted to the Registrar's Office by the end of the application period. If you submit your application materials after this deadline, your application will no longer be taken into consideration.
Step 2
In the next step, the Registar's Office reviews whether or not you have fulfilled the formal prerequisties. This includes checking to see if the degree you had previously acquired is a recognized university degree or whether or not you have fulfilled other admissions requirements, such as German and foreign language skills.
If these formal prerequisites have not been fulfilled, you will receive a rejection letter from the Registrar's Office immediately after the application deadline. Otherwise your application will be forwarded to the respective faculty so that your subject-specific aptitude can be reviewed.
Step 3
Review of your subject-specific educational background (admission, admission on certain conditios, rejection) rests solely with the facultys' exam boards.
Step 4
The faculties notify the Registrar's Office by September 15 of the result of the educational background review.
Step 5
At the latest, the Registrar's Office will send the admissions and rejection letters in September. For courses of study with open admission, you can enroll in person or online within the enrollment deadline till October 31, 2013, at the latest.
Your Master's Has Restricted Admission (NC)
The faculty cannot grant all interested individuals a study spot. For this reason the capacity was restricted to a certain number of study spots. If the number of applications is more than this number, a selection process takes place - the so-called study spot allocation. This is currently the case for only a few courses of study.
How to proceed:
1. For these Master's program, you must submit both a request for recognition of your subject-specific background education and an application for a study spot.
At RWTH Aachen, this takes place in one step: You apply (exclusively!) online through the Registrar's Office by January 1 (for a studies beginning in the summer semester) or July 15 (for studies beginning in the winter semester). These deadlines are final deadlines.
2. Include all necessary documents from your first university studies with your request. You can submit these documents till February 28 resp. August 31. Please note the following: Application without Bachelor Diploma.
The Registrar's Office forwards your application to the faculty, in order to have the subject-specific admissions requirements checked. In the event of a positive response (including admission with requirements), your application is put in the group, that is included in the allocation process for study spots.
The current allocation of Master's study spots at RWTH Aachen is exclusively conducted by your final average grade in your first studies. A lottery process takes place if grades are the same. Critieria, other than the final average grade, are not considered by any faculty at the moment. Please note that this may change in the future. The Registrar's Office can provide information about the current semester. A waiting period between the first university degree and the application deadline only occurs for the Master of Education (teacher training programs).
3. Wait for an answer from the Registrar's Office. If you receive an acceptance, please take note of the enrollment deadlines, mentioned in the acceptance.
