Relaxed Further Education Without Pressure to Perform

Do you want to continue to educate yourself without academic requirements?  Then be an auditor at our university!  As an auditor you can take classes but do not take the exams.  The Registrar's Office grants you admission to courses, but not to an actual degree program.

All About Auditing

Do I need to have finished secondary school in order to audit?

No.

Do I have to fulfill any other prerequisites to audit?

No.

Is auditing free?

Auditors at RWTH pay a fee of €100 per semester.

Exception: In indidvidual cases, the auditing fee can be waived.  This occurs if paying the fee would lead to social hardship, or an unreasonable economic burden.  This occurs if one has a very low income (or is unemployed), or if no further financial means or assets are available.  Those, who would like to be considered for this exception, must submit both an application for the exemption of mandatory contributions as well as the corresponding supporting documentation to the Registrar's Office.

How do I apply to be an auditor?

Fill out the Application for Permission to Audit (Antrag auf Zulassung als Gasthörerin oder Gasthörer) and either mail it to the Registrar's Office or submit it in person to the office.
