Studies for Senior Citizens at RWTH Aachen is a further education opportunity within academia for older individuals, who wish to grapple with general academic questions after their career or caring for families or further their knowledge in individual fields.
Courses
Many courses regularly offered by the university are open to senior citizens. Additionally, there are special events by instructors or senior citizen students themselves, who offer these events to their own target group.
Parking Permit
As a senior citizen student you have the possiblity of acquiring a parking permit for the Hörn and Melaten campuses and the parking garage on Professor-Pirlet-Straße. The same regulations for Parking Space Management apply as they do for regular enrolled students.
Learning Without Academic Pressure
You can study as you wish, without pressure to perform well academically. You arrange your schedule in accordance with your aptitude and taste, selecting from a variety of subjects.

Do I need to have finished secondary school in order to participate in the Studies for Senior Citizens?
No.
Do I have to fulfill any formal prerequisites to participate in Studies for Senior Citizens ?
No.
Is Studies for Senior Citizens free?
Senior citizen students at RWTH pay an auditing fee of 100 Euros.
Exception: In individual cases the auditing fee can be waived. This occurs if paying the fee would lead to social hardship or an unreasonable economic burden. This occurs if one has a very low income (or is unemployed) or if no further financial means or assets are available. Those, who would like to be considered for this exception, must submit both an application for the exemption of mandatory contributions as well as the corresponding supporting documentation to the Registrar's Office.
Where do I get the course guide for Studies for Senior Citizens?
You can get a paper copy of the course guide (de) in the RWTH Aachen Registrar's Office, at the Info Center in the SuperC, Templergraben 57, at the info center in the Main Building, Templergraben 55, at the business offices of banks and the Sparkasse in Aachen, and various Aachen bookstores.

Are there special courses for senior citizen students?
Yes. You can find them in the course guide (de). You can find it at the RWTH Registrar's Office, at the Info-Center in the SuperC, Templergraben 57; the information station in the main building, Templergraben 55; as well as brochure stands in banks, Sparkasse Aachen, and various Aachen bookstores.
Where can I find the regular courses that are open to senior citizens?
These courses are also listed in the brochure for senior citizen studies. You can find an overview of the program in the CAMPUS-Information System. Please note that courses typically start shortly before the lecture period, that is the beginning of April or the beginning of October.
How can I register for Studies for Senior Citizens?
Transfer the 100 Euros auditing fee for senior citizen studies. The appropriate bank transfer slip is available in the Course Guide. To make sure that you rfee is accounted for appropriately, please provide both your first and last name under payment details on the transfer slip. You can transfer the money to Sparkasse Aachen account number: 14522, routing number: 39050000.
If you have already been given permisstion for Studies for Senior Citizens, please use the bank transfer slip you receive with your last auditor identification card.
In the course guide, you will also find an application for registration as an auditor in senior citizen studies. In this form, please enter all of the courses you would like to attend. You can send the complete application to:

Once RWTH Aachen has received your auditor fee, you will be given permission for your chosen courses. You will receive your registration certificate along with your auditor ID card for senior citizen studies and bank transfer form in the mail.
Can I acquire an academic degree or take exams during Studies for Senior Citizens?
No.
