Accommodation Services for Exchange Students
Please Note
The International Office does not arrange accommodation for students. If you wish to find and live in student housing, please apply to Studentenwerk Aachen, the local student services organisation. Due to the high demand for places in halls of residence, you are advised to do so as quickly as possible - typically, it takes up to six months (and more) to get a room in the halls. Generally, Studentenwerk is unable to guarantee a place in university accommodation.
Halls of Residence
For exchange students, there are two different kinds of accommodation in halls of residence: regular places and group reserved places.
Regular Places in University Accommodation
All students, including exchange students, have the opportunity to apply for a place in a hall of residence. For further information about the types and locations of available halls of residence, please visit the Studentenwerk website or the web pages of the individual halls of residence.
Application: please subm it your application to the hall of residence of your choice. You can apply to up to three halls of residence at the same time. Application forms are available at Student Service's Application Portal (link in German).
Rent: The monthly rent varies from about €160 - €280 per month.
Group-Specific Places
These rooms are typically reserved for certain types of students (e.g. scholarship students, exchange students). Depending on demand and availability, some of these rooms may be allocated to regular students. Typically, these rooms have a few additional features and thus are more expensive. They are allocated centrally, i.e. applications are to be made to Studentenwerk.
Application: Please fill in the form for exchange students and scholarship holders (see Studentenwerk start page). Applying for such a place, you cannot specify your preferred hall of residence or any other desired features of your future accommodation. Please note that the maximum rental period is one year.
Rent: The monthly rent varies from about €200 - €300 per month.
Private-Sector Accommodation
In the event of demand exceeding supply, students will be directed to alternative housing in the private sector.
