Applying for a University Placement to a Restricted Admission Course of Study
Some RWTH Aachen courses of study have restricted admission. This means: There are only a certain number of spots in these courses of study. These courses of study are also called NC Courses (“Numerus Clausus” Courses). In order to enroll in a course of study with restricted admission, you must first apply. You should look at our course of studies to see which have restricted admission.
What does Numerus Clausus mean and how does such a value originate?
The designation Numerus Clausus (NC) does not refer to a previously determine grade one must obtain, in order to receive a placement in the desired course of study, but rather expressed that a course of study has restricted admission, because the number of applicants is greater than the number of spots actually available in the course of study. The"value of the NC" which appears in statistics and the media, is always the grade, with which the latest admitted applicant received a placement for studies.
The NC should be solely understood as a value for the previous year, which should help students roughly determine how good their chances are of being admitted. The NC can vary greatly from year to year depending on the quality of applications, particulary in years with double cohorts, since there are many more applications.
This value is not at all a testimony to the difficulty of the course of study.
Where do I need to apply?
A difference is made between courses of study with restricted admission nationwide or courses of study with restricted admission at the specific university.
Courses of Study with Restricted Admission Nationwide: University study placements in medicine and dentistry are allocated by the Stiftung für Hochschulzulassung through a nationwide selection process, the hochschulSTART allocation process.
Courses of Study with Restricted Admission at the Specific Universtiy : In order to receive a university study placement at RWTH Aachen in one of the courses of study with restricted admission, you must apply directly to RWTH Aachen, through the RWTH Aachen local allocation process.
