Integrative Production Technology

The goal of the Integrative Production Technology cluster is integrative research on the product and process formation to the provision of key technologies and competencies with regards to producibility, series production, manufacturing costs, and sustainability.

From the present view, globalization, resource efficiency, and mobility are the megatrends of our time. The past shows that despite the revolutions already successfully taking place, production can be successful in high-wage countries, such as Germany.

Nevertheless, all companies must deal with strageic questions regarding their product "What is produced?" and their production "How is our product produced?". The goal of the Integrative Production Technology cluster is to develop the relevant production technology of the future in different demonstration objects together with industry and university partners

The demonstration objects are for example the electromobility initiative Street Scooter derived from the mega trends and are particular suited for interdisciplinary research on the product and the necessary production.

Topics and Partnerships

The cluster consists of many initiatives that supplement and link with one another.  They are each composed of multiple research and industry partners, on the topics lightweight construction (Aachener Zentrum für integrativen Leichtbau), a montage of electric vehicle building blocks (prototype factory), development of elective vehicle components (electromobility lab), and the manufacturing of tools suited to standards and demands (Werkzeugbau Akademie).

Until now, eight RWTH Aachen research partners and 30 prestigiuos industry partners from the automotive, unbranded goods, electrical industry, and building technology have been combined in the Werkzeugbau Akademie. Audi AG, BMW Group, Daimler AG, Kirchhoff Automotive, Gedia, ZF Sachs, Bosch and Siemens household appliances, Hilti AG, Gira, Gerresheimer, Weidmüller, and Phoenix Contact among others have been involved.
