Production Engineering and Applied Research

In the field of production engineering, the focus lies on photonics-based production technologies and on tailored light sources.

Applied research is being conducted in the areas of lighting and optical components as well as life sciences, measurement technology, and diagnostics.

The User Center at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology can be considered the prototype for the RWTH Campus model: several companies have set up research subsidiaries at the User Center in order to closely collaborate with the Institute on R&D projects. Thus the cluster has extensive experience in this sort of university-industry collaboration.
