No
Are there any scholarship conditions and requirements defined by the sponsors?
No. The stipend is awarded without taking the student's financial and family situation into account. Scholarship winners do not have to enter into any agreements with the sponsors. However, we do invite recipients and sponsors to establish contact with one another.
Do scholarships influence the child-care allowance (Kindergeld)?
Since January 1, 2012, all earnings and stipends, including the Deutschlandstipendium, no longer influence the child-care allowance. In accordance with the Simplififying Tax Act (Steuervereinfachungsgesetz) 2012, the income audit for children of age to the conclusion of a first vocational training or studies no longer exists. More information on this can be found in the BMF letter on Section 32 Paragrah 4 Einkommensteuergesetz from December 7, 2011.
The Deutschlandstipendium was taken into consideration during the awarding of the child-care allowance, until January 1, 2012. However it was under the tax exempt amount 8004 Euros, without the further calculation of other sources of income.
Is the scholarship taxed?
The Scholarship Program Act is arranged in such a way, so that the Deutschlandstipendium is not taxed and is not affected by social tax liability. Exceptions may reslts from certain configurations of private, state-recognized universities. Universities will provide information on this.
Is the scholarship counted against other social services?
No. The Deutschlandstipendium is not calculated against other social services, for example Arbeitslosengeld II. However housing allowances are an exception.
Can I receive a housing allowance and the scholarship at the same time?
Yes. Individuals receiving a housing allowance must note howeer, that half of the Deutschlandstipendum, like other scholarships, is included in the calculation of annual income. Please contact your responsible housing allowance office for more information on the topic of scholarships and housing allowance.
