As part of the scholarship award ceremony, RWTH Aachen University and proRWTH hold an event beforehand exclusively for Education Fund donors. Donors have the opportunity to get to know the university and proRWTH and take a look behind the scenes of research and teaching. The goal is to bring donors closer together, enable discussion, and to introduce exciting and ground-breaking research fields and institutes at RWTH Aachen.

Humans and Machines: "Meet RWTH" Visits the IMA/ZLW & IfU Cybernetics Lab

Prior to this year‘s Education Fund scholarship award ceremony, RWTH rector Ernst Schmachtenberg welcomed donors and sponsors for an informal get-together. During the “Meet RWTH” event, the participating donors were introduced to various key research areas of the University and had the opportunity to network and with invited representatives from regional and national companies.

Site visits are part of the annual “Meet RWTH” event; this year, the Cybernetics Lab of the IMA/ZLW & IfU institute cluster introduced their research activities. The Lab, with key research areas such as complex IT systems, robotics, and automation, is jointly operated by the Institute of Information Management in Mechanical Engineering IMA, the Center for Learning and Knowledge Management ZLW, and the Institute for Management Cybernetics IfU.

After a short report by RWTH rector Ernst Schmachtenberg on the latest developments at RWTH Aachen University, Professor Jeschke, the director of the institute cluster, provided insights into the world of artificial intelligence. Subsequently computer scientists Christian Kohlschein and Dr. Sebastian Reuter gave presentations on emotion detection through machines and intelligent transport robots. The highlight of the event however was still to come: during a guided tour of the institute, the guests had the opportunity to enter virtual worlds and get to know a number of robots.
