Degree Content
The course of study lay out in the first semesters can vary depending on a student's education background. The course of study has its own homepage, where you can find all the information about the course of study lay out.
Prerequisites
A prerequisite for starting studies in a first university degree, with which the necessary background education can be proven, as determined in the exam regulations. The exam board determines whether it fulfills the entrance requirements.
Below you can find the most important information from the exam regulations regarding application. (Please see the current exam regulations for the legal formulation of the necessary subject-specific education background.)
- A candidate should have a recognized first degree (Bachelor of Science or Engineering) in Metallurgy, or Materials Engineering, or other closely related disciplines, awarded by an internationally recognised university-level institution.
- Applicants must have a proof of their English language skills (TOEFL 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based; 5 years of school English).
- Sufficient knowledge of German (Proof through e.g. TestDaF (Level 4 in all areas of examination) or the German language evaulation for university admission (DSH, Level 2 or 3)).
- Proof of completion of an at least six week internship in the discipline. (Internships completed during the Bachelor course of study are recognized).

Application Date
The Automation Engineering examination board evaluates application for the summer semester in January and applications for the winter semester in June.
Examination Regulations
Examination Regulations regulate academic goals and prerequisites, the course of study layout, and exam procedures. The appendix to the regulations contains the description of the modules, from which the course of study is composed. The current exam regulations always apply to students just starting their studies.
Faculty
The interdisciplinary course of study in Automation Engineering is offered by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and the Faculty of Georesources and Materials Engineering.
