Dates and Deadlines

The Bachelor course of study in Industrial Engineering with a Specialization in Civil Engineering has an interdisciplinary curriculum.  Students must have diverse interests. Engineering, mathematic, and technical content as well as economic ways of thinking are all equally represented in the curriculum.

Industrial engineers combine technical expertise and economic judgment. They are generalists, who do not have to know every detail, but when necessary can inform themselves of the details.  They have to understand the work in the technical departments just as much as the business administrative decisions.  Industrial engineers do not just work with various specialists, but rather they also make sure that collaborations work.

Degree Content

The course of study lasts six semesters and consists of 180 credit points.  It is composed of courses in mathematics, the natural sciences, economics, and civil engineering.

  • Courses in Mathematics, Statistics, and Construction Computer Science are completed in the mathematics and natural sciences component.
  • The economics component encompasses not only Business Administration and Economics lectures and exercises, but also courses on Private Law and Quantitative Economic Methods.
  • Required courses in Mechanics, Construction Materials Science, Theory of Structural Design, Fundamentals of Support Structures, Economics of Construction Management, and Surveying are completed in the civil engineering component.

In the elective component of engineering section, students can choose from among these concentrations:

  • Structural Enginereing
  • Water Management
  • Construction Management and Geotechnics
  • Transport and Spacial Planning

The course of study is finished with the Bachelor thesis in the sixth semester, in which students independently work with a defined topic in accordance with scientific methods.

Companies and employees, engineers, and managers are active in the global market with worldwide divisions of labor. Information and knowledge processing in intense complex strategy, design, and development processes, in production structures, and logistics systems, are all key factors in the successful introduction of innovations and basic changes, as well as in the guarantee of a lasting competitive ability. Reflecting this, the job profile of engineers has changed.  Engineers are called upon to promote the technological change with a sense of responsibility; therefore they cannot just be innovators, but also must become entrepreneurs.  In addition to their technical responsibility for new products innovative production processes and business administrative responsibility, they also have a social and ecological responsibility.
