RWTH Aachen Has a New Outfit
RWTH Aachen is presenting its new outfit online under www.rwth-aachen.de: The reworked website for the Aachen university is tailored to target groups, more clearly structured, and visually appealing.
Web clearer, and more informative and user friendly
Together with the company Aperto AG in Berlin, a concept was created for the structural and design orientation of the new website, after an analysis of strengths and weaknesses with focus group interviews and investigations into the behavior of different user groups. The different information needs of the target groups were at the focus of the deliberations.
“The orientation of our new website is more consistent with users‘ needs than up until now. For this reason, the focus during the project was not on the question “What can we offer?” but rather “What do our visitors need?” I am convinced we have found the right answers,” said Manfred Nettekoven, Chancellor of RWTH Aachen.
The new web pages take into consideration the numerous requirements for handicap accessibility. They also offer direct starting points with sought out information for alumni, school students, internationals, and press, in addition to the four main points “Academics,” “Research,” “Corporate Relations,” and “The RWTH.” “Through this, we provide our visitors with an intuitive and quick path to the information they are seeking,” says Armin Offermanns, head of the web team.
The nine RWTH Aachen faculties, who had their own web pages until now, will gradually adopt the structure and design of the central pages.
A optimized version of the website for mobile devices, which should also make it possible to easily “surf while on the go,” is still being prepared and will soon follow.
The upkeep of the website was also optimized. The company activeWeb has adjusted the editing interface in the Content Management System contentserver 6, making it possible for editors to directly switch from the website to the editing mode.
