Free Mover

 

If you wish to study for just one or two semesters or complete an internship or research paper at RWTH Aachen, but also wish to continue with your degree at your current home university, you can apply as a so called "free mover". These are studnets, who wish to complete a stay abroad independent of existing collaboration agreements. After successful application, you are enrolled at a student at RWTH Aachen and have the possibility to participate in courses and exams. You can also earn credits and aquire certificates for your academic performance. However, you may not take final exams or receive a degree from RWTH Aachen.

Prerequisites for studies as a free mover are

  • an RWTH Aachen professor who supervises you during this time. This must be confirmed in writing through a "Supervision Confirmation". This confirmation must be reissued every semester.  You may be enrolled a total of four semesters as a free mover at RWTH Aachen.
  • submission of a learning agreement
  • your continued enrollment at your host university during your entire stay

You can apply and enroll for studies as a free mover at any time.  There are no application deadlines to keep in mind. You will need the following documents for your application:

  • An issued confirmation from a RWTH Aachen professor, that you will be academically supervised (Supervision Confirmation without Degree)
  • A Learning Agreement
  • A certificate, confirming your enrollment at your home university
  • A tabular resumé
  • A copy of your university diploma (in the event you have already graduated)
  • A translation of your university diploma in German or English. This translation must be done by a sworn translator.
  • A copy of your transcripts
  • Translation of your transcrips in German or English (if they are in another language). These must also be translated by a sworn translator.
  • Documentation of language skills (for participation in courses in English: TOEFL iBt 80 points or more or IELTS 6.0 or higher;for participation in courses in German: DSH II, TestDaF at least a 4 in  all four test sections)

As soon as we have received your documents, we will reveiw them.  If your application has been successful, you will receive written confirmation of your acceptance from us, in which you will find more information about enrollment and the start of studies.
