Information & Communication Technology (ICT)
ICT is an acronym for Information and Communication Technology. Examples of established and recognized ICT research fields at RWTH Aachen are:
Human-Technology Interaction
HTI studies interaction and interfaces between humans and technology. In particular, the interdisciplinary project house HumTec is very active in this field. Topics covered in this ICT-focus area are eHealth, intuitive input device and "multi-touch walls,“ to name a few.
Future Mobile Communication & Information Systems
The topics studied in the UMIC Research Center range from networks via hardware and software for mobile devices to new challenging applications.
Information Technologies (JARA-FIT)
JARA-FIT is a section of the Jülich-Aachen Research Alliance (JARA) studying new materials and architectures for nanoelectronic circuits, non-volatile memories and spinelectronics. Research also addresses the question how biomolecules and quantum effects may be used for information processing.
Virtual & Augmented Reality, Multimedia
The project "Virtual & Augmented Reality, Multimedia" is concerned with topics such as image-based localization, 3D virtual reconstruction of cities, augmented reality, and a brand-new, high-resolution 3-D imaging room, the so-called CAVE.
Participating Disciplines
Virtually all disciplines of RWTH Aachen University are engaged in this profile area, in particular, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Natural Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Arts and Humanities, as well as Business and Economics.
