Internet of Production for Agile Enterprises
This is the guiding theme of the colloquium held by Aachen production engineers in the Machine Tool Laboratory WZL at RWTH and the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT on May 18 and 19, 2017, with two parallel lecture series with three plenaries, five keynotes, and twelve technical lectures from science and practice, in which new approaches and strategies are presented to meet the current challenges of the production industry.

The Internet of Production describes the real-time capable and secure availability of information at any time and any place. Generated information is becoming a multilateral and high-volume shadow of production. Pattern recognition becomes possible through precise and continuous data analysis, thus enabling a certain forecasting ability in order to support decisions on the way to a controlled production. The systematic learning from the data creates a significant added value through the Internet of Production. Agile and highly iterative product developments as well as a fast and error-free implementation of the “change request” process in serial production become possible
The Aachen production engineers offer new approaches and strategies and report on their current experiences regarding implementation. AWK 2017 is placing particular focus on the chances and possibilities of the Internet of Production as the key part of Industry 4.0. The program is rounded out with an industry exhibition, comprehensive institute tours, and break out sessions on RWTH Aachen Campus. AWK 2017 is challenging itself to comprehensively reflect on current developments, reveal unexploited potential, and show the path to a successful future.
