Content

This course is designed to cater to the needs of academics interested in further developing and/or fine-tuning their conference presentation and networking skills in English. You will have the opportunity to present in a simulated conference setting and receive individual feedback. The focus of the course will be on the verbal and nonverbal aspects of your oral communication. As a forum to practise and improve acquired skills in each of these areas, the course aims to prepare participants for the oral communication challenges of the ‘conference situation,’ helping them become more efficient speakers and networkers. In this context, effective communication is understood not only as a matter of applying standard formats, but rather of adapting principles to suit your individual speaking style. The benefits we expect you to gain include not only optimizing your rhetorical skills in English, but also developing more confidence and eloquence when moderating discussions, networking or presenting papers.

Target Audience

postdocs, academic staff, junior professors

Further Information on Target Audience

The course is mainly intended for postdoctoral researchers or Ph.D. holders interested in improving their English presentation and networking skills. Please note that the workshop will be taught entirely in English and that there may be some overlap with the topics discussed in the workshop “Academic Presentations for Postdoctoral Researchers”.
