The RWTH Aachen Division of Mineral Resources and Raw Materials Engineering welcomed 15 pupils from the MINT-EC Network to the four-day MINT-EC camp "Sustainability in Resource Engineering – the Path from Extraction to Recycling." In collaboration with the Student Advice Centre and the Division of Materials Science and Engineering focus was placed on topics related to the raw material cycle.

Participants attended various lectures through which they gained an overview of the energetic use of energy resources, different types of raw material deposits, and raw material extraction below and above ground. Alongside workshops on "Robotics in Mining," "Mining of Gravel and Quartz Sand," and "From Old to New: Recycling Shards" pupils had the opportunity to use a crushing machine to dismantle model cars into their basic components. They were also able to separate quartz from magnetite using separation methods and search for gold using pans.

On the last day of the MINT-EC camp pupils presented what they had learned. After a presentation from the Student Advice Centre on choosing a course of study and taking up studies, participants had the opportunity to talk with all those involved over brunch and a feedback session.
