Responbilities

The Rectorate is made up of the Rector, the Chancellor, and four Vice-Rectors. The Rector chairs the Rectorate. It is the executive governing body of the University. All University affairs are incumbent upon the Rectorate as long as they do not expressly fall under another purview.

 

Principal Responsibility

The Rectorate has principal responsibility for planning, controlling and coordinating faculty and interdepartmental functions as well as securing adequate allocation of resources for the academic requirements.

The Rectorate dedicates its efforts to promoting the development of the University and contributes to internal and external university communications and co-operation.

 

Goals

The current Rectorate, under the direction of Professor Ernst Schmachtenberg, aims at further developing RWTH Aachen into a strategically leading university with high international visibility.  For this reason, the Rectorate has put forth great effort since the beginning of its term, along with numerous representatives of the university to create a comprehensive strategic plan, the Strategy 2009-2020 .

The Rectorate is supported in its diverse activities by a small team made up of a personal advisor to the Rector, the Rector's secretary, and the Vice-Rectors' secretary.
