World's Largest Meeting of Alumni From Korea and Germany

08/10/2018

ADeKo conference takes place at RWTH Aachen for the first time. Opening event with former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder.

The ADeKo "10th Joint German-Korean Conference" will be held at RWTH Aachen for the first time from October 17 to 19, 2018. The Alumni Network Germany-Korea (ADeKo) is the world's largest and only network of Korean alumni who have studied and conducted research in Germany. There are approximately 20,000 German university alumni in Korea, on average 5,000 Koreans are currently pursuing studies at German universities, and every year 800 more begin studies in Germany. RWTH has maintained close ties to Korea for many years and the Aachen alumni are a strong group within the ADeKo network.

The ADeKo Conference makes a significant contribution both to science and to building and developing German-Korean relations. Some 300 participants are expected to participate. The title of the conference taking place in Aachen is "Engineering for our Future," which also gives a nod to RWTH's traditional focus on the engineering sciences. The topics at the conference are divided into four sections: Digital Production and Products – Industry 4.0, Smart Cities and Infrastructure, Future Mobility, and Energy for our Future.

Media representatives are welcome to attend the reception for the conference attendees on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at 7pm in the Coronation Hall at Aachen City Hall. In addition to RWTH Rector Professor Ulrich Rüdiger and Lord Mayor Marcel Philipp, the German Ambassador to Korea, Stephan Auer, the Korean Ambassador to Germany, Bum-Goo Jong, former Korean Prime Minister Hwang-Sik Kim (as ADeKo Chairman), and former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder will speak. The partnership between German and Korean Universities in the TU9 and KNU10 networks will furthermore be cemented by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. Please register for the event .
