Warehouse Operator

Vocation Description

As a warehouse operator, you accept the delivery of goods and check the accompanying papers for the accuracy, amount, and condition of the delivery.  In the event of a reclamation, you prepare the item to be returned. You unpack goods that are in their proper condition and store them appropriately. When doing so, you make sure that the goods are stored in optimum conditions, regulating the temperature and humidity, or picking out the appropriate storage location. You record the items in lists, card indexes, or on the computer, in order to be able to provide information about the condition and storage location at any time.  You examine the condition of the warehouse and take inventory at regular intervals. To send goods, you pack them, fill out the accompanying papers, assemble the package items, and load the trucks. You tag, label, and secure the shipment. Certain safety precautions are to be taken into consideration, such as hazardous materials regulations and possible tariff regulations. You transport the goods with the help of various transport devices and conveyors, such as forklifts or automatic sorting equipment.  The maintenance of this equipment is also part of your responsibilities.

Practical Training

Practical training takes place at the respective RWTH Aachen institution.

School Training

Courses take place, in part, two days a week at the Paul-Julius-Reuter-Berufskolleg, Beeckstraße 23 - 25, 52062 Aachen.
