Reading With Panel Discussion on the Topic of Depression

The young student and author Luca Bischoni will read excerpts from his book "Als man mir den Stecker zog" (loosely translated as “When They Pulled the Plug on Me”) on Monday, June 12, 2023, at 7pm at Aula 1 in the RWTH Main Building. He will provide very personal insights into the period when he became severely ill with depression in 2021. At the time, Bischoni was enrolled in the industrial engineering program at RWTH, specializing in mechanical engineering. A student with good grades, he, however, noticeably lost control of his life as the illness increasingly took hold and he eventually had inpatient treatment. In the meantime, Bischoni is doing better; he has learned to deal with the illness and is now studying psychology at RWTH. He will talk about this, his very personal story, at the event.

Following his reading, he will discuss acute situations, rehabilitation measures, and prevention in the context of mental health with the following experts: Dr. Michael Paulzen, Chief Physician at Alexianer Hospital in Aachen, Prof. Dr. Irene Neuner, Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics at Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, Dr. Joesfine Mendez Parente, Head of RWTH Mentors, Silvia Krebs-Oviedo from the RWTH Student Advice Centre and Prof. Dr. Dr. Ulrich Rüdiger, Rector of RWTH, will also take part in the panel discussion.

AStA – students’ committee at RWTH has organized the event with the support of the Student Health Management, other stakeholders of the University, and external supporters.

The event is open to the public and no registration is required. It will also be broadcast via a YouTube livestream.
