"5 to 12" RWTH Science Night
The “RWTH Science Night” has been taking place every year now since 2003 in the Kármán Auditorium, on the second Friday in November, and always welcomes numerous guests. The idea behind the Science Night is to present science in an unusual way and at an unusual time.
With its dynamic and engaging special events comprising interesting lectures, film screenings and musical performances which are suitable for young and old alike, the evening aims at making science graspable by providing education and fun through lively hands-on experience.
The Press Office is responsible for the creation, as it had experience with target groups, program offerings, and organization due to previous science celebrations. In keeping with the thematic diversity, the compact event supports a dense succession of individual events. The search for suitable program elements also considered the connection of science to cabaret, art, music, literature, or sports. Scientific topics are explained in an artistic manner and Euroregional content is presented scientfically. The social aspect also plays a big role. A central meeting point is an inviting live band with drinks and food. In order to enable younger parents with smaller children to participate, there is a special observation lesson for kids in the workshops and labs of the different university institutes.
The premiere event in November 2003 was a complete success and resulted in the expansion into the Science Night "5 vor 12“. Since then, about 6000 visitors attend the evening and look foward to the rich program.
