Universities are both, international players in global research and education as well as innovation hubs in their respective regions. They are at the same time “Anywheres” and “Somewheres” (David Goodhart), and, therefore, they need to act as mediators between these two poles if they want to deliver the greatest benefit for science and scholarship, their local communities as well as society at large.
